Klemzig was the first German settlement in Australia. Old Lutheran emigrants from Pastor August Kavel’s congregation founded it in 1838 on land beside the River Torrens, and named it after their home village in Prussia, now Klępsk in Poland. It sits under seven kilometres north-east of the city, in the City of Port Adelaide Enfield.
The O-Bahn’s Klemzig Interchange is in the suburb, so the city is a short bus ride away, and the Torrens Linear Park runs along its southern edge beside the busway and the river. Buses also run along North East Road.
