Gepps Cross takes its name from the Gepp’s Cross Inn, which Isaac Gepp opened in 1848 where Main North Road meets Grand Junction Road. That crossroads is still the suburb’s landmark, a short drive up Main North Road from our office and just under ten kilometres north of the city.
Much of Gepps Cross is open land, sport and industry rather than housing. It was home to a major abattoir, and today holds warehouses and the State Sports Park, with the State Hockey Centre and the Adelaide Super-Drome velodrome.
