Northfield is one of the older names on this side of the city: it was in use by 1852, and the suburb had its own station on the Northfield railway line from 1857 until passenger services ended in 1987. It sits about nine kilometres north of the city in the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, under three kilometres from our office.
Ross and Keith Smith landed their Vickers Vimy here in 1920, Stockade Botanical Park takes its name from the colonial prison once known as The Stockade, and Northfield Primary School dates from 1861. Parts of the original suburb were later renamed Northgate and Lightsview, which is why all three now share the 5085 postcode.
